On gambling, Jimmy Higdon voted against the governor's slots-in-racetracks bill during the 2009 special session, and he is committed to oppose the legislation as it is currently drafted. Jimmy is in favor of a constitutional amendment so that the people of Kentucky can decide this important issue for themselves.

The oldest of seven children, Jimmy was born July 15, 1953 to Cecil and Alice Higdon of Lebanon, Kentucky. Jimmy graduated from Marion County High School in 1971, and then earned a B.S. in Industrial Arts Technology with a minor in business administration from Morehead State University in 1975. Upon graduation from college, Jimmy was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Army, completing his Officer Basic course in Fort Lee, Virginia. Jimmy then returned to Lebanon, Kentucky in 1976 and became a partner in Key Market, which later was re-named Higdon’s Foodtown.

As Jimmy completed his college education, he married Jane Miles of Loretto, Kentucky and started a family. Today Jimmy and Jane are the proud parents of two adult children: Brittany H. Nagle of Louisville, Kentucky and Jim Higdon, III. Brittany is married to David Nagle and they have two boys, David and Dawson.

Thirty-three years after returning to Lebanon, Jimmy and Jane continue to operate Higdon’s Foodtown. They now also own and operate Higdon’s Appliance Center. They are assisted in business by 75 valued, full-time and part-time employees.
